Kapil Muni Temple is dedicated to Sage Kapila Muni and is situated on Sagar Island, about 100 km west of Kolkata in West Bengal. It is believed that the deity was positioned in 1437 A.D. by Swami Ramanand. The current structure is a recent one and it has a stone block, considered to be the representation of Sage Kapil. There is also the Gangasagar Mela held in the place, which is the largest fair in West Bengal and festivals like Makar Sankranti are celebrated.

The nearest railway station to Kapila Muni Temple, Gangasagar, is Kakdwip Railway Station, which is approximately 25 km from the temple. After reaching Kakdwip Railway Station, you need to reach the ferry station. After reaching the ferry station, you have to travel by boat ferry towards Gangasagar. Another option is that you can come to Sealdah Railway Station in Kolkata, which is about 120 km away and then take a train to Kakdwip and follow the same route.

By Air

The nearest airport to Gangasagar and Kapil Muni Temple is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, which is located nearly 125 km from the temple. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or book a private vehicle to Kakdwip, which will take around 3 to 4 hours. From Kakdwip, you have to take a ferry to Gangasagar, where the Kapil Muni Temple is located.

By Road

You can travel to Kapila Muni Temple, Gangasagar, from Kolkata, which is approximately 125 km away. By car, the journey from Kolkata to Kakdwip Ferry Junction will take around 3 to 4 hours. Once you reach Kakdwip ferry junction, you will need to take a ferry to Gangasagar, a short and sweet boat ride. The entire journey from Kolkata to Kapila Muni Temple, including the car ride and boat ferry, will take around 4 to 5 hours. If you don't have your own vehicle and want to travel from Kolkata to Kapila Munboatple by road, then you can take a bus, hire a taxi, or book a shared cab to Kakdwip for more budget-friendly options.
