About

The Asthi Visarjan Puja in Prayagraj is a sacred ritual performed to immerse the ashes (Asthi) of a deceased soul in the holy confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. It is believed that this ritual brings peace and liberation (Moksha) to the soul. Before the immersion, Pujari's chant mantras, offer flowers and offer prayers. Families gather with devotion, seek blessings for the deceased and ensure their spiritual journey towards divinity.

In the Asthi Visarjan Puja held in Prayagraj, at the beginning, a salnalp is taken with the names of the devotees. Then, the Panditji invokes the ancestors with chanting and prayers. Then the family brings the ashes of the deceased in an urn. A priest guides the ritual by chanting mantras. The ashes are placed in a clean vessel filled with flowers, sandalwood and holy water.
