Mantras are chanted, and prayers are offered to free the souls from past karmas and help them attain salvation. This puja is considered very important to honor the ancestors, remove the sins of the ancestors and bring blessings, peace and prosperity to the family.

In the Pindadan Puja in Prayagraj, first a salnalpa is taken with the names of the devotees. Then, the Panditji invokes the ancestors with chanting and prayers.
