Pind Daan Puja - Prayagraj

Pind Daan Puja - Prayagraj

About

Pindadan Puja in Prayagraj is a sacred ritual performed for the peace of the souls of ancestors. At Triveni Sangam, priests prepare Pinda (rice, barley flour and sesame seeds) as prasad. Mantras are chanted, and prayers are offered to free the souls from past karmas and help them attain salvation. This puja is considered very important to honor the ancestors, remove the sins of the ancestors and bring blessings, peace and prosperity to the family.

In the Pindadan Puja in Prayagraj, first a salnalpa is taken with the names of the devotees. Then, the Panditji invokes the ancestors with chanting and prayers. The devotee sits with the priest near the Triveni Sangam. This pinda is made from rice, barley flour, black sesame seeds and ghee. It is placed on Kush grass and offered with flowers, water and prayers. The priest chants mantras for the peace of the ancestors. Finally, the pinda is immersed in holy water, believing that it helps the souls attain liberation and brings happiness and prosperity to the family.
