Pitru Tarpan Puja - Prayagraj

Pitru Tarpan Puja in Prayagraj is a sacred ritual performed on the banks of the holy Triveni Sangam to honor and pay respect to ancestors. Devotees offer water mixed with black sesame seeds, rice, flowers, and prayers to seek blessings and peace for departed souls. This puja is believed to free ancestors from difficulties and bring prosperity, happiness, and harmony in the family. Prayagraj is considered highly auspicious for performing Pitru Tarpan as per Hindu traditions.

First, a salnalpa is taken with the names of the devotees. Then, the Panditji invokes the ancestors with chanting and prayers. This puja should be performed facing the south direction where it is believed that the souls of our deceased ancestors are present. The puja begins by remembering the names of the ancestors and then mantras are chanted by the priest according to the Vedas, and finally water, milk and black sesame seeds are offered to their ancestors.
