About
Shradh Pujan is a sacred Hindu ritual performed to honor and express gratitude to departed ancestors (Pitrus). According to Hindu scriptures, offering prayers, Tarpan, and Pind Daan helps satisfy the souls of ancestors and seeks their blessings for the family's peace, prosperity and well-being. Performing Shradh with devotion is believed to reduce ancestral karmic burdens and strengthen the spiritual bond between generations.
The Shradh Pujan starts with Sankalp, then Dev Tarpan, Rishi Tarpan and Divya Manusya Tarpan and upitri tarpan is performed in which sacred water is offered to the deities, ancient sages, and divine beings with Vedic mantras. After this, two chapters of the Bhagavad Gita are recited to create a spiritually uplifting atmosphere and pray for the peace of the departed souls. The main Shradh rituals are then performed, in last Pind Daan is done, where sacred offerings are made to the ancestors with devotion. The puja ends with prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed souls and blessings for the health, happiness, prosperity and well-being of the family.
