Saraswati Pushkaralu Kalesharam - Sankashta Hara Ganapati Homam

About
Sankashta Hara Ganapati Homam is a sacred fire ritual dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and beginnings. Performed specifically on Sankashta Hara Chaturthi, this homam seeks divine blessings to eliminate difficulties (Sankat), bring relief from mental and material troubles, and ensure success in personal and professional life.
This homam has even more spiritual significance during Saraswathi Pushkaralu since it strengthens the effectiveness of Vedic ceremonies and is in harmony with the river Saraswati's sacred presence.
(DISCLAIMER: This puja will be performed only on 16/05/2025, the timing will be 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.)
The name and purpose of the devotee are mentioned in Punyahavachanam and Sankalpam, which open the homam. A Kalash is placed to symbolise the divine presence, and Lord Ganesha is invoked (Avahanam) with mantras. Chanting Ganesha's 108 names is the first step in an Archana. Next comes the main homam, in which Ganapati mantras and Atharvasheersha are chanted while offerings such as ghee, sesame, and herbs are made into the sacred fire. To appease Lord Ganesha, modaks and durva grass are offered in special quantities. Aarti and the distribution of Prasadam mark the end of the puja.
