Temples in Gaya

Vishnupad Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Gaya, Bihar, on the banks of the Phalgu River. As the story goes, Lord Vishnu killed the demon Gayasur at this place by stamping his foot on his chest. After Lord Vishnu pushed the demon under the earth with his foot, his footprint was retained in a rock. Pitrapaksha Mela is an important festival for this temple. Dungeshwari Cave Temple is located in Gaya, dedicated to Lord Buddha. It is also known as Mahakala Caves. Buddhist temples, known by the locals as Sujata Sthan, can also be found within these caves. Before continuing his journey to Bodhgaya, Lord Buddha meditated in the three caves. Buddha Jayanti is an important festival at this temple. The best time to visit this temple is during the Vaishaks month.

The Mangla Gauri temple is located in Gaya, Bihar and is dedicated to Mangalagauri. Situated on Mangalagauri Hill, the temple faces east and is among the eighteen maha shaktipeeth. mentioned in various scriptures and Buddhist writings, including the Padma Purana, Vayu Purana, Agni Purana, Devi Bhagvata Purana and Markandeya Purana. Navratri celebration is an important festival in this temple. Visit this temple from October to March.
