Temples in Kurnool

The Yaganti Temple is one of the most famous temples for Lord Shiva located in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Yaganti Temple is also known to be as Sri Uma Maheswara Temple. Sri Veerabhadra Swamy is the Kshetra Palaka of this temple. The temple was built in 15th century and the temple has the main idols of Lord Shiva and Parvathi in a single stone. This temple is the only place where Lord Shiva worshipped in the main form of an idol as people believe that Agastya was performed by Lord Shiva to make the appearance in the form of Ardhanareeswara. The Nandi idol present in this temple is increasing in size. Here the name Uma indicates the Goddess Parvathi and Maheswara refers to Lord Shiva temple so it is known as Uma Maheswara temple and Maha Shivaratri is the main festival celebrated in the month of February to March.
