About Shree Parsurameswara Temple Bhubaneswar
Shree Parsurameswara Temple Bhubaneswar is located near Bindu Sagar Pond, Kedar Gouri Vihar, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The temple is dedicated to the god Shiva and is one of the oldest existing temples in Odisha. The temple walls feature a sculptured image of the goddess Durga. It is the first among Bhubaneswar temples to contain Saptamatrika images, a group of seven goddesses. Parashurameshvara Temple is considered a pilgrimage place to visit during Shardiya Navratri, Maha Shivratri, Shravan Maa and Diwali festivals, as the large Mela organized at the time of these major festival celebrations. The first temple had an entrance hall called Jagamohana was attached to the main sanctum. The temple was built in the 7th Century by Madhavaraja of the Shailodbhava Dynasty. It is believed that the Shailodbhavas were great devotees of Shaivism (worship of Lord Shiva) as well as Shaktism (worship of Goddess Shakti). In the year 1903, the temple was renovated and some changes were made to the inner roof of the sanctum.
