Umananda Temple is located on Peacock Island, near Guwahati, which lies on the mighty Brahmaputra River. This place of worship is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The name 'Umananda' comes from two Hindi words, namely 'Uma', which was another name for Lord Shiva’s wife and 'Ananda', which means happiness. The temple is believed to have been built in the 17th century by King Rudra Singha of the Ahom Dynasty.
