The word Saptashati is a combination of two words "Sapta" means Seven and "shata" means hundred. Durga Saptashati is a auspicious text dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is believed that the Durga saptashati path was written by the sage Markandey. The Durga Saptashati path is divided in to 13 capers and these chapter are contains 700 mantras that is why this path is called Durga Saptashati. The Durga Saptashati tells the story of the battle between Goddess Durga and Mahishasura.
At first, Sankalp is taken in the name of devotees. Then invoking Goddess Durga is done with mantras and prayers by the pujari. Then all the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga are worshipped. Then pujari chants shlok from Durga Saptashati while performing hawan Pujariji offers Ahuti into the sacred fire. At last, arti is done of the Goddess and the puja is completed.
