About Gundicha Ghar Temple Puri

Gundicha Temple is one of the important temples in Puri, Odisha. The deity of Jagannath used to take rest during the Rath Yatra. It is called the Garden House of Lord Jagannath. The Legend of Gundicha Temple is that King Indradyumna built the Jagannath temple during his rule. Gundicha, the queen of Indradyumna, requested him to build the same temple. It is believed that the King started the Rath Yatra festival at her request, and the deities stayed here for seven days. Rath Yatra is the main festival of this temple.

The temple is built in Kalinga architectural style using the light grey sandstone. The temple does not have the permanent idols. The temple only comes alive at the time of rath yatra when the murtis from Jagannath temple are shifted here for a few days. Thu, this temple has its own importance and is visited by devotees in large numbers during the rathyatra.

By Rail

The nearest railway station is Puri railway station, at a distance of 3.5 km from the temple. One can easily book the trains directly to the station to reach the temple. From the station, one can take the public transport or can hire a taxi to reach the temple easily.

By Air

The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport Bhubaneswar, at a distance of 60 km from the temple. One can get the flight to this airport to reach the temple easily. The facility of taxis and public transport to reach the temple.

By Road

The roadway is considered the most preferable way to reach the temple, as the devotees visit the temple mostly by road. The temple is very well connected to the roadway; even you can take the public transport or hire a taxi to reach the temple.
