There is a legend that after being victorious in the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas wanted to have darshan of Lord Shankar to get rid of the sin of fratricide. While searching for Shankar ji, the Pandavas reached the Himalayas, but the Lord did not want to give them darshan, so he went into meditation and settled in Kedar. Shri Madmaheshwar Temple is located in Mansuna village of Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. It comes second among the Panch Kedars and is located at an altitude of about 3497 meters above sea level. This temple is famous for the worship of the navel form of Lord Shiva. The main worship in the temple is as follows Five different forms of Lord Shiva are worshiped in Panch Kedars: 1. Kedarnath - Worship of the hump of the bull 2. Tungnath - Worship of the arms 3. Rudranath - Worship of the head 4. Madmaheshwar - Worship of the navel 5. Kalpeshwar - Worship of the matted hair Even a few drops of water of Kedarnath are considered sufficient for salvation. By offering Pind Daan in the temple, devotees attain virtue for the peace of the soul of their ancestors. In the natural beauty and trekking to the temple, this track passes through dense forests, bugyals and Himalayan scenery. On the way, there are stops like Gaundar, Khatra Chatti, Nanu Chatti, Kun Chatti. The Budha Madmaheshwar temple located near the temple is at an altitude of about 14,000 feet above sea level. From here, a wonderful view of Chaukhambha mountain can be seen. The doors of the temple are opened in the third week of May and remain open till the end of November. Traveling during this time is safe and convenient. South Indian Lingayat Brahmin priests are appointed for worship in the temple. Here Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Nabhi Lingam. The worship and darshan of Budha Madmaheshwar Temple, Lingam Madmaheshwar, Ardhanarishwar and Bhima Temple located near the temple also has special significance. Shri Madmaheshwar Temple is not only important from a religious point of view, but its natural beauty and peace also attracts travelers.
