Sri Munnessaram Devasthanam Temple

About Sri Munnessaram Devasthanam Temple

Sri Munnesaram Devasthanam is an important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka. The temple is one of the ancient Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to Shiva in the region. The temple complex consists of a collection of five temples, including a Buddhist temple. The central temple dedicated to Shiva (Shiva) is the most revered and the largest, and is popular among Hindus. The other temples are dedicated to Ganesha, Ayyanar, and Kali. It has existed since at least 1000 AD, and is believed to be associated with the popular Indian epic Ramayana and its legendary king Rama. The main festivals celebrated at the temple include Navaratri and Shivaratri. The former is a nine-day festival celebrated in honour of the main goddess, while the latter is an overnight celebration in honour of Lord Shiva. Apart from these two Hindu festivals, the temple also has its own festival, the Munnesaram festival, which is a four-week-long event attended by Hindus.
