Gokarna Narayan Bali Puja is performed to appease Lord Narayan for the unnatural death of a human or any Pitru Dosh found in the horoscope. This puja is to be performed in all cases of unnatural deaths, like death by animals, fire, curse, cholera, disease, suicide, snake bite etc. Narayan Bali is performed to fulfil and pacify the unsatisfied desires of dead souls who are trapped in our world because these desires stay with the soul even after death. To get rid of their pain they trouble their own family.
At first, Sankalp is taken in the name of the devotees. Then invoking Lord Narayan and Lord Vishnu is done by chanting of mantras and water by the pujari. Then offering things like water, rice balls, etc the devotees by chanting of mantras and the Vedic process is followed. At last, aarti is done and the puja is completed.
