Gau means Cow and Daan means Donation. The cow is one of the most important animals in the Hindu religion. Cows are always addressed as Mata which means mother in the Hindu religion. The benefits of donating a cow are simply endless and it is believed that at least one cow must be donated in one man’s lifetime. So, Gau Daan is considered to be an important Hindu ritual. Cow is the considered to be the most sacred and pure animal in the Hindu religion. It helps a person to attain moksh and most worshipped animal in the Hindu religion. This process includes a Cow and her calf (child). At first, there will be a small puja of the Cow and her calf. Every day till one month the Cow’s and her calf food and clothes are given to them in the person's name. The cow and her calf’s expenses for the whole month are done from the Dakshina.
