About
Kanya puja, also known as Kumari Puja, is a significant ritual observed during Navratri. It involves the worship of young girls, symbolising the Goddess Durga's pure and divine feminine energy. Kanya puja honours young girls as the manifestation of the goddess Durga in her various forms such as Kumari, Trimurti, Kalyani, Rohini, Kali, Chandika, Shanbhavi, and Durga.
The ritual begins with washing the feet of the young girl as a mark of respect and purification and symbolizes the washing away of negative energies and honouring their divine presence. A red tilak is applied on their foreheads and mantras, invoking the blessings of Goddess Durga. The girl is then prayed in the form of Goddess Kamakhya. The girl is then offered a special meal, often including puri, Halwa and chana (chickpeas). The ritual concludes with the arti to the young girl. and seeking blessings.
