The Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy temple is located in Kaleshwaram Village in Jayashankar Bhupally district in the state of Telangana, where people worship Lord Shiva. The temple gets its name, Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy Mandiram, due to the dual presence of Lord Kaleshwara (Yama) and Lord Mukteeswara (Shiva) in the same place.
People believe that visiting this holy place helps you to reach Swarga. They think that the Mukteshwara Swamy Temple holds more divine power than Kashi.
The meeting point of the Godavari, Pranahita and Saraswati rivers, called Triveni Sangam, makes this place very special. It is believed that visiting here washes away sins and helps fulfil their wishes.
According to Kaleshwara Kanda, this temple was here before the Kali Yuga started. The present temple was built in 1171 CE by Ellanki Gangadhar, a minister of the Kakatiya ruler Rudradeva.
Karimnagar tourism gains tons of importance from the historical significance of this temple. It’s also believed that the Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy temple is one of the three temples of Lord Shiva of Trilinga Desham. All three temples are considered Jyotirlingas that ornament the three corners of Telugu Land.
The two opposite temples constituting the Trilinga Desam are Draksharamam and Srisailam. The Karimnagar temple boasts of several unique features, one among which is the hole within the Mukteshwara linga, which may never be crammed with water. The rationale behind it is still a wonder.
Major festivals like Maha Shivaratri and Karthika Masam are celebrated here with special prayers and events. A grand gathering called Pushkaralu is held every 12 years.
The best time to visit Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy Temple is from October to March.
