The Somnath temple, also called Somanātha temple or Deo Patan, is a Hindu temple situated in Prabhas Patan, Veraval in Gujarat. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus and is the first among the twelve jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple was reconstructed many times in the past after repeated destruction by multiple Muslim invaders and rulers, notably starting from an attack by Mahmud Ghazni in the 11th century.
The first version of the Somnath temple's construction date remains uncertain, with estimates ranging from the early centuries of the 1st millennium to about the 9th century. Festivals Shravan, Shivratri, and Karthik Purnima are celebrated.
The architecture of the temple is in Chalukya style and showcases intricate carvings and a magnificent shikhara (spire) rising to 155 feet. The temple is situated near the shore of the sea, so the best sight-seeing views are available from the temple. One can easily enjoy the sight-seeing, and peace can be felt through this view.
