Shradh And Tila Homam In Rameswaram

Shradh is dedicated to ancestors for peace and well being of departed ancestors. This ritual involves offering of water mixed with black sesame seeds and rice. "Tila Homam" is combination of two words "Tila" means Black sesame seeds and Homan means "Hawan". Performing shradh with tila homam is considered very powerful and auspicious. It is believed that by performing this puja and hawan ancestors soul get peace and get relieve from cycle from birth and rebirth.

At first devotees take a bath in the holy river. It is required to wear white holy clothes during this ritual and wear a ring of "Kush" grass. Then Sankalp is taken in the name of the devotee and then devotees offer water with mixed black sesame seeds, Kusha grass and White flowers to the soul to satisfy them. Than havan is performed by the pujari by chanting mantras and offering Ahuti with the help of things like Akshat, Water, Ghee, Black Sesame etc. The pujari ji offers Ahuti in the name of all the ancestors who have died. At last Shradh and hawan vidhi is complete and blessings of ancestors are taken by the devotees.
