Pashupatinath Rudrabhishek is a ritual done for worshipping Lord Shiva while chanting mantras. Rudrashtadhyayi is made of two words Rudra means Shiva and Ashtadhyayi means one with eight chapters, Shiva is included in these eight chapters. Rudrashtadhyayi is a part of Yajurveda and Vedas have been described as the best scriptures. Vedas are parts of Shiva only. This pooja is performed by experienced priests and they recite powerful mantras by taking the Sankalp in the name of the devotee. While doing Abhishekam on Shiva Lingam, the chanted mantras are Rudrastadhyayi Mantras. After the Abhishekam, the priest purifies it with different mixtures. At last, aarti is done of the Shivling then 108 Maha Mitrunjay Jaap is started.
At first, the Sankalp is taken in the name of the devotees. Rudra Abhishek meaning is the holy bath of the Shivling which is done with offerings of a sacred mixture of liquids like Milk, Gangajal (water of River Ganga), Honey, Curd (Yogurt), Sugarcane juice, Sandalwood paste etc. And then the path of all the Ashtadhyayi is done along with 108 Mahamrityunjay Jaap.
