About
The word Asthi Visrjan is made up of two sanskrit words: "Asthi" means ashes and "Visrjan" means immersion. It is believed that it's mandatory to perform Asthi Visrjan. After that ritual, soul's can start the journey for liberation by merging it with five elements of nature. Performing this ritual in the holy river purifies the soul and helps them to attain peace. This puja is an important part of the antim sanskar. During Asthi Visrjan ritual, it involves chanting of Vedic mantras.
At first, Sankalp is taken in the name of the devotees. Then puja is done of the ashes of the deceased person following all the proper Vedic rituals, mantras are chanted by the pujari while doing the puja. Then the pouring of the ashes in the water is done by the devotees with the help of the pujari and the ritual is completed by taking the blessings.
